Canada Day
Each year the City of North
Bay organizes a Canada Day celebration at the waterfront.
In 2007 Ann Welsh of the
North Bay & District Multicultural Centre added a multicultural
component, including a reaffirmation of Canadian citizenship ceremony,
a speech by an immigrant to Canada and multicultural entertainment.
The event was very successful
and the City wants the multicultural centre to keep it going as part
of their celebration. We have agreed to do that, as it is an excellent
opportunity to highlight the diversity of our city and the role immigration
has played and will continue to play.
If you want to get involved
with the multicultural component of the Canada
Day Committee contact Oweeny De Silva at our office. She worked with
international students at Nipissing University to organize the July
1,
2008 event and they would love to see you join them in planning Canada
Day
2009.
