North Bay Positive Spaces Project – Research Launch

The North Bay Positive Spaces Research Project is beginning the research phase of the project by launching the LGBTQ2S+* Community Survey. The media, local government, service providers, and community members are invited to join us on June 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre at 100 Main Street East. At our research launch you will meet the research team, learn about this local research project, and find out why Your Story Matters.

The LGBTQ2S+ Community Survey is part of the North Bay Positive Spaces Research Project which is a one year research project that is gathering information and feedback from LGBTQ2S+ people living in and/or accessing services in North Bay. The LGBTQ2S+ community is being engaged through the anonymous online Community Survey, and in the upcoming confidential focus groups, and one-on-one interviews.

It is well documented that LGBTQ2S+ persons experience a myriad of challenges. These challenges are exacerbated by North Bay's small and rural/isolated location. Currently there are no services for LGBTQ2S+ people in North Bay. The North Bay LGBTQ2S+ population has low visibility, few active community groups/hubs, and scarce/inaccessible educational resources. Also, LGBTQ2S+ newcomers/refugees experience additional challenges of language, cultural differences, immigration experiences, and possible trauma.

The research project will explore what LGBTQ2S+ people need to receive safe, meaningful, and inclusive services in North Bay and place the lived experiences, opinions, and needs of local LGBTQ2S+ people at the center of the research and recommendations. Through this project, LGBTQ2S+ people in North Bay have a say in shaping the services that matter to them, and to share their stories.

Please join us at the launch event more information about this exciting local project. Regreshments and snacks will be served at our event from our friends at Cedar Tree and SugarDaddy Cupcakes & Catering.

The North Bay Positive Spaces Research Project is a project of the North Bay Local Immigration Partnership and housed at the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre and has been funded through an Ontario Trillium Foundation Seed Grant.
