What is a Positive Space?
A welcoming environment where members of the *LGBTQ2S+ community are able to access inclusive services with dignity and respect
Employees can work free from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
It is everyone's responsibility to create Positive Spaces by challenging homophobia and heterosexism, transphobia, biphobia and cisexism.
An ongoing process.
Positive Spaces are also welcoming environments where LGBTQ2S+ newcomers are able to access culturally inclusive services with dignity and respect. LGBTQ2S+ newcomers are an integral, though often invisible, part of immigrant and refugee communities, as well as LGBTQ2S+ communities. Experiencing marginalization from within both cultural communities and mainstream LGBTQ2S+ communities often leaves individuals feeling that there are few options for obtaining services.
*LGBTQ2S+ = lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and 2-spirit; the plus sign acknowledges and represents other identities not explicitly listed in the acronym
